The Challenge:
Hampden Park, Scotland’s primary international football stadium, is steeped in history. The Scottish Football Museum wanted a quick and simple way to prime the museum visitors with all the history they need to truly appreciate the stadium tour.
Hampden Park, Scotland’s primary international football stadium, is steeped in history. The Scottish Football Museum wanted a quick and simple way to prime the museum visitors with all the history they need to truly appreciate the stadium tour.
The Process:
I proposed using the explanatory power of a short, looping animated video to educate and excite visitors, while they wait in the foyer for their stadium tour to begin.
Conversations with the client revealed a desire to tell this story with a tone of voice representing Scotland’s wit and cheeky underdog spirit. So, I worked closely with the marketing team to draft a script reflecting this.
I prototyped two distinctive visual looks for the video. One option was inspired by the bold colours, typography and the energy of sports coverage shows like Match of the Day. A second look was developed using high resolution scans from the museums vast catalogue of historical illustrations, and maps. Option two was preferred, the client loved the way it accentuates humour through playful puppeteering of old Victorian newspaper sketches.

The Results:
The animated video was well-received by the client, providing the museum with an invaluable high-quality multimedia asset.
“We are very happy with the finished result. Nothing but positive comments from the team.”
